Craig Marquez | Detective | Los Angeles Police Department

Detective Craig Marquez was born in Hawaii and is the great-grandson of Filipino immigrants.  After graduating from Baldwin High School (Island of Maui), he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Rifleman in the Infantry. As a Marine, he would go on to serve in Marine Corps Security Forces Company Panama Canal, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) and 3rd Battalion, Fifth Marines.

In September of 1995, Detective Marquez joined the Los Angeles Police Department and was assigned on Probation to Pacific Division, where he served in the Special Problems Unit (SPU). He would finish Probation and work at Southeast Division as a Footbeat Officer and Rampart Division in the Special Problems Unit. He would make Detective at Northeast Division and work a variety of assignments and Divisions. Some of Detective Marquez’ specialized assignments as a Detective, included Juvenile Division – Abused Child Unit, Commercial Crimes Division and Gang and Narcotics Division. Detective Marquez was serving as a Gang Detective at Rampart Division, when he was chosen for his current assignment in Training Division.

Detective Marquez is a recipient of the LAPD Medal of Valor, American Legion Medal of Valor, California Peace Officers’ Association Award of Valor, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Hero of Hollywood Award, Golden Badge Foundation Heroism Award, National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) Top Cop Award, American Legion- District 24 “Police Officer of The Year” Award and LAPD Rampart Division, 2020 Detective of The Year.
