Steven Embrich | Commander | Los Angeles Police Department

Commander Embrich is a 24 year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and currently serves as the Area Commanding Officer of Pacific Division.  He also served as the Commanding Officer of West Valley Patrol Division, which serves approximately 196,840 residents within West Valley’s 33.5 square mile area. As the Commanding Officer of West Valley Patrol Division, Commander Embrich was responsible for overseeing the activities of approximately 150 patrol officers and supervisors who were tasked with crime reduction and addressing quality life issues in within our community. Commander Embrich is a tireless supporter of community policing and believes it is essential that the Los Angeles Police Department work closely with the community we serve.

Prior to his promotion to the rank of Captain, he served as a Lieutenant II, assigned to Gang and Narcotics Division, where he was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Gang Support Section. His duties and responsibilities included oversight of the Gun Unit, CLEAR, CALGANG, FBI Gang Task Force, Gang Administrative Unit and Gang Field Unit. As a Lieutenant, he also served as a Patrol Watch Commander at Wilshire and Topanga Areas.

As Sergeant, Commander Embrich worked as a Field Supervisor in Foothill Area, West Los Angeles Area and Van Nuys Area. In 2005, Commander Embrich was selected to work with the Mission Area transition team and served as the first Patrol Adjutant at the newly constructed Mission Station. Commander Embrich experience as a Sergeant also included tours in Training Division, Personnel and Training Bureau and Topanga Area, where he served as a Firearms Supervisor, Chief’s Aide (Uniform and Equipment Coordinator) and Assistant Watch Commander.

He began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in July of 1994 and his first duty assignments included tours at West Valley Area, Devonshire Area and Training Division where he worked as a patrol officer, foot beat officer, Valley Tagger Task Force Coordinator, Officer in Charge of the Devonshire Volunteer Surveillance Team and firearms instructor.

Commander Embrich also proudly served his country, and recently retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel with over 32 years of combined service. His military service included six years as an enlisted infantryman and over 26 years as a commissioned officer, serving in both the Field Artillery and Military Intelligence branches of the Army. Commander Embrich was awarded the bronze star medal for his service in Iraq.

He is very involved in Department athletics and is a member of the LAPD Pistol Team. The team represents the Department at various competitive events to include the United States/World Police and Fire Gams and the National Police Shooting Championships (NPSC). He competed on the four-officer team that won national championships in 2015 and 2016 at the NPSC in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Commander Embrich was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, Finance. He resides in Simi Valley with his wife, Rebecca and two children.
